THESE SHINING LIVES
Inspired by real life events, THESE SHINING LIVES, is a period play spanning 1922-1938 that celebrates the strength and determination of four Illinois factory women who sought justice and accountability from the CEOs of UNDARK Radium Dial Company watch-making factory once they discovered they were unknowingly working with deadly chemicals with zero protection provided by their employers. Directed by Renée Saindon Russas.
SEEKING ACTORS:
4 presenting as female (20s-40s)
2 presenting as male (20s-60s)
THE WATCH DIAL PAINTERS: (all range between early 20s- mid 40s)
CATHERINE DONOHUE – Lead; mother of two, married to TOM, courageous and committed to family and friends
CHARLOTTE PURCELL – devout parishioner, straight talking spokesperson for the other workers; also plays REPORTER 1
PEARL PAYNE – Close friend to CATHERINE, passionate for justice, loves to cook, sew, tell jokes; also plays JUDGE 2, voice of DAUGHTER
FRANCES O’CONNELL – Youngest of the four, reserved, yet very loyal and supportive; also plays REPORTER 2, OFFICIAL
ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS: (will play a range of ages)
TOM DONOHUE, construction worker, married to Catherine, also plays DR. ROUNDTREE and DR. DALITSCH, voice of SON
MR. REED, Factory floor supervisor, respects the women, but tows the company line; also plays RADIO ANNOUNCER, COMPANY DOCTOR, JUDGE, attorney LEONARD GROSSMAN

REHEARSALS

THE PILLOWMAN
The Pillowman centers on a writer in an unnamed totalitarian state who is being interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarites to a series of child murders.
SEEKING ACTORS:
4 Roles - Gender Neutral Casting (20s-50s)
TUPOLSKI - Lead police detective, "good cop" to Ariel’s "bad cop". Cold, calculating, pragmatic, and cynical. Manipulates and controls the interrogation.
KATURIAN - Writer of dark, violent short stories, often involving children. Intelligent, imaginative, passionate about their art, emotionally complex. Fiercely protective of their stories and their sibling, Michal.
ARIEL - Police Detective. Aggressive, volatile, and brutal in their methods.
MICHAL - Childlike, sensitive, loyal to Katurian, and easily influenced. Displays moments of disturbing insight. Was severely abused by their parents. This trauma has left them psychologically scarred and stunted.
CONTENT NOTICE:
Includes sensitive and triggering subject material (children’s death/murder, mental illness, suicide, rape, parental abuse).
Derogatory language, staged violence, fake blood.
